Building permits in Joliet, Illinois: what they show and who they help
Updated October 25, 2026.
The City of Joliet issues building permits for work inside city limits: new homes, additions, roofs, decks, fences and more. Each permit is a public record of work someone has decided to pay for, which makes the permit list a lead source for contractors in that trade and the ones that follow it.
Where Joliet's permit records come from
Joliet's own online permit system needs a login, so the public record we use is the city's monthly building permit report, which the city releases through its public records portal. A monthly report is not a live feed, and our pages say which month each permit came from.
For each permit, the public rows we show carry: trade, permit type, month, job value (rounded), status, contractor.
